A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 10 years ago, found that between 70-80% of people are deficient in Vitamin D.  Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and depression.  This Vitamin is rarely found in our food supply, so supplementation is key. What is Vitamin D? Our bodies synthesise this vitamin/steroid when our skin is exposed to sunlight. Studies show during summer months our bodies produce 6IUs of vitamin D per CM2 of exposed skin. Given the fact that most of us are in the office during the summer, or slathered with SPF50 when we're not, means that we rarely produce sufficient amounts for optimal health. In the winter we get even less. We’re covered from [...]

The cost of being lean: what are you willing to do?

Do you have what it takes to be lean? My reason for posting this infographic should come as no surprise.  Many people are convinced they want to achieve a particular physique goal but generally they have no idea the sacrifices and planning needed to achieve the body of their dreams.  It's very easy to set out on a goal, and it's also pretty simple to move from one level to the next, but in order to get super lean, or even close to it, requires more than most people are willing to give. There's a reason why very few will build a lean cover model body, because the work, effort and dedication required will take a lot out of you.  Hopefully this infographic will be [...]

Sleep, so simple yet something many can’t seem to get right. Whether it’s due to ridiculous working hours or a hectic social lifestyle, sleep is the one thing that if most people fix would change the playing field completely. Whether the goal is to get leaner, stronger or to grow more muscle; proper sleep has so many benefits that it affects all goals equally. Change your sleeping patterns and see what it can do for you. The mechanics of sleep… Most people need anywhere between 7-9 hours of sleep a night but when taking averages of the people that train with me, the average seems to be more like 4-7 hours a night. With demanding jobs either having people work late or being so demanding [...]

Digestion matters, chew your food!

Most people come to a personal trainer with one of two goals, they either want to be stronger and put on muscle, or they want to lose weight and get leaner.  And although they’re eager to get into the weights room and start working towards their goal, it’s usually not where they should start.  Most people that come to me for some sort of dietary intervention or advice usually have leaks in their diet and nutrition that need to be plugged before we can start doing the fancy stuff. You see your digestion is the most important aspect of overall health; it controls which nutrients are absorbed into your body and more importantly what toxins are blocked from entering.  Yet the ability to digest efficiently [...]
