4 Things You Need to Make Progress in 2017

4 Things You Need to Make Progress in 2017

Don’t focus on change; focus on progress. The new year shouldn’t be to change yourself, it should be an opportunity to make progress in yourself to create lasting change in your life.

By the 15th of January, 95% would have already given up on their goals and resolutions. We don’t want you to be one of those people. We want 2017 to be different for you.

Here are 4 things we know lead to lasting change.

1/ Have a clear vision of what you want.

Did you start last year with a resolution or resolutions? How did they go? Be honest!

Most people have great intentions early in the year. They have an idea of what they want, but unfortunately, most will never realise their goals. It’s not due to lack of willpower, or not having enough resources. For most people,it’s lack of clarity. Without vision, or a clear path to what it is you want, you’re doomed to failure. Year after year.

It can’t just be about what you want, you have to know why you want it. You need to know the underlying reasons that these goals mean something to you. You need to create a fire and drive to keep you going. The ‘want’ won’t do this, but the ‘why’ will!

Make this want a part of your identity. If you believe this is who you really are, you will find a way to become your vision. Be ultra specific! The more specific you are, the better this will work.

Progress - Vision

2/ Create rituals to support your vision

Wake up at the same time. Everyday! Have the same breakfast. Go to the gym, regularly. Follow a programme which gives you routine and structure. You get the idea. When you give yourself too much leeway or don’t set a structure that supports your vision, you allow deviation from the plan, which eventually leads to failure.

Whatever you want to focus on in 2017, to ensure lasting progress, you need to make sure that the steps to achieve your vision become routine. Again be ultra specific about what it is you’re going to do to create the lasting change that you want in your life.

Think about this now. What will your new rituals be in 2017? When will you go to bed? What time will you wake up? Have you thought about what your breakfasts will be? Are your training plans and programmes already in place?

Progress - Having a routine

3/ Be in an environment that supports your vision.

One of the biggest factors that effects whether you achieve your goals or not is the support you have around you. This isn’t only support from friends and family, but the structures around you that you set up for your own progress.

Have you still got junk food in the fridge or did you throw it out? Did you buy that gym membership, or are you still tagging along when your friends have guest passes, or doing some sort of pay as you go option? Do the closest people in your life respect your vision, or are they too busy doing burger challenges and propping up the local bar?

The more support you set up around you, the more likely you are to achieve your vision and make the constant progress required to make lasting change in your life. Don’t be afraid to say NO to those that don’t share your vision.

Progress - Support group

4/ Expect more from yourself than anyone could ever expect from you.

Set high standards for yourself. Where you set the bar will determine what you achieve. The truth is, nobody around you really knows what you’re capable of. You may not even know what you’re capable of. When you create a vision for yourself and what you want to achieve, make sure it’s something lofty.

What is it you really want for yourself in 2017? How many things have you been putting off because they seem to far fetched? When will you get all of these things if you keep putting them off year after year?

Get that body, career, holiday, business and life you’ve always wanted.
